Rama is the protagonist of both The Raid movies. He is first seen as the newest rookie of his squad, and a capable fighter fighting for his life and for his family.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Not much is known in Rama's life except that he has an older brother, Andi. His brother left the family for a criminal life as he felt he fit into it. Rama later joined the police force and trained in Silat. He is also married and has an unborn child as the movie starts.

The Raid Operation[]

He volunteered to join the raid as part of the 20 men squad to take down a notorious crime lord named, Tama. His true reason is to find his brother, Andi who is working as Tama's lieutenant and tries to convince him to leave his criminal life. Despite being a rookie cop in part of the operation, Sergeant Jaka nevertheless recruits him in need of manpower.

The Raid 2: Berandal[]

After the events of previous movie, Rama is soon contacted by Lieutenant Bunawar, one of a few honest police officer who tries to set up a secret task force to get rid of the corruption on the Jakarta Police. He convinces Rama to join his team on behalf of his family (in the meanwhile Rama became father of a son). Henceforth Rama is called "Yuda", since he had to fake his death to not get caught by one of the criminal clans. Rama purposely gets send to prison after beating up the son of a influential politican - in this way he gets close to Uco (son of Bangun, one of the leaders of Jakartan gangs). After a while Rama befriends with Uco mainly because his capability of fighting and saving Uco's life on a prison revolt.

Eventually Rama is allowed to leave the prison and becomes part of the Bangun's Gang as Uco's bodyguard. Meanwhile, Uco is dissatisfied with his position in the gang and thirsts for more power, desperately wants to be the leader of his father's gang. Since he was unqualified by Bangun to lead the clan, Uco starts a conspiracy with the help of Bejo, one of the two other Jakartan major gang leaders. Uco and Bejo fake an attack of the Indonesian Bangun's Gang on their competing Japanese Goto Family to provoke the "gang war". Nevertheless, the gang war that claiming numerous victims from both gangs makes Bangun and Goto finally agreed to make a peaceful solution. Uco only sees the weakness in the actions of his father, who according to him behaves submissively which would destroy the gang in the end. Bangun realises the involvement of his son in the reason of the gang wars and beats him for it but it's too late, finally Uco reveals his connection to Bejo and kills his father.

When Rama comes, Bangun is already killed and Eka was wounded by Uco, he then saves Eka and fighting one of Bejo's assassins althought losing the fight. When Eka is succumbed to his wounds, Rama decides to handle the matter on his own and eventually raids Bejo's restaurant. After fighting through hordes of Bejo's henceman and all of Bejo's assassins, Rama is able to kill Uco, who just before killed Bejo and Reza. Shortly after, the Japanese gang arrives only to find Rama has disposed their enemies, and in a short dialogue between Rama and Keiichi (Hideaki Goto's son), it is heavily implied that Keiichi tries to persuade Rama to join the Yakuza out of gratitude but Rama, all bloodied and wounded from all the fights, apparently decides to end his involvement with the criminal clans and possibly his work as a police officer.

In total, Rama has killed over 57 people in Raid 1 and 2, making him the character with the highest kills/Injuries

Trivia[]

  • Rama's undercover name, Yuda, is the name of Iko Uwais' previous character on his earlier movie Merantau.
  • Rama is one of the two police officers of the first film's eponymous raid still alive, other being Bowo (assuming his death scene was non-canon).
  • He is one of the few honest police officers on the Jakarta Police Departement alongside Bowo, Bunawar, and a few others.
